AI Predicts Metamaterial Properties
Vacuum deposition also known as vapor deposition is a common process that is often used to create metamaterials. Metamaterials are synthetic materials that are not found in nature and their structure is engineered to have specific characteristics that are more favorable to its intended function. Due to their wide application metamaterials are used to create many different products including wearable devices, flexible displays, and even chemical and biological sensors. However, in order to be able to create metamaterials and infer how they may be used best it is important to study their properties and gain important insights. Usually, scientists would be tasked with discovering these insights through observation and calculations but surprisingly it was recently discovered that Artificial intelligence (AI) could also determine the properties of metamaterials. and even more surprising the machine learning algorithm could even predict how the metamaterial would interact with electromagnetic fields.
