New Quantum-Based Vacuum Gauge System
Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently invented an innovative quantum-based vacuum gauge system. Apparently, this new system is able to measure pressure much more accurately than the conventional systems that are in use today. Vacuum deposition is used widely in various industries, and it has various applications. Often times vacuum deposition or vacuum evaporation is carried using vacuum chambers that operate at one-hundredth billion the pressure of the air at sea level. Thus, it is imperative that the pressure be measured as accurately as possible to ensure efficiency and product quality. This is especially true in the semiconductor industry where manufacturers have to make their chips thin layer by thin layer in the most accurate way possible. Those who practice vacuum deposition will be glad to know that this revolutionary quantum-based vacuum gauge system has already past its first test and is on its way to becoming the primary standard for vacuum pressure measurement.
