Hitachi High-Tech and NOF Metal Coatings Advance R&D with Materials Informatics
Hitachi High-Tech and NOF Metal Coatings Advance R&D with Materials Informatics
Hitachi High-Tech is partnering with NOF Metal Coatings Group to accelerate research and development through the use of Materials Informatics (MI). By integrating MI into NOF’s workflows, the collaboration has achieved a 50% reduction in experimental costs and time, while also generating innovative ideas that go beyond traditional expertise.
NOF is widely recognized for its high-performance thin-film coating technologies that protect metals from corrosion. These coatings are essential for industries such as automotive and aerospace, where durability and environmental performance are increasingly critical. With an aging base of veteran engineers and a growing cohort of younger staff, NOF sought to evolve beyond conventional trial-and-error approaches and adopt data-driven methods to meet rising demands for safety and sustainability.
Hitachi High-Tech’s MI Solutions leverage AI-driven predictive modeling to analyze historical experimental data and recommend optimal material compositions and manufacturing conditions. This approach not only reduces the reliance on intuition but also uncovers opportunities that would have been difficult to identify using conventional methods. Through close collaboration, Hitachi High-Tech’s data scientists provided consulting support, enabling NOF to adopt MI smoothly without needing in-house specialists.
Looking ahead, NOF plans to extend MI adoption across its global operations, while Hitachi High-Tech will continue enhancing its solutions through Lumada 3.0 and seamless integration with advanced analytical equipment. Learn more here.
